Read Luke 12:35–40
The story is told of a man who took his family on a vacation tour of London. His six-year-old daughter was especially awed by Westminster Abbey. The man couldn’t help but notice her intense focus on the grandeur of the building, so finally he asked, “What are you thinking about, honey?”
She replied, “I just noticed how big you look at home and how small you look in here.”
Sometimes we struggle to separate the big things in life from the not so big ones. This is especially true when it comes to the end times. It’s easy to get caught up in the urgency of daily concerns that we lose sight of eternally important things.
Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning (Luke 12:35).
Jesus is coming again and when He does, the problems as well as the dreams of this world will shrink to nothing. Meanwhile, we’re called to be ready, to maintain the proper perspective. Amid the distractions of the “small stuff,” may we focus on the priorities and desires that matter in eternity.
Prayer for Today: Lord, help me keep my eyes on You no matter what struggles, distractions, or temptations I face.

Devotional brought to you by God's Word For Today.
God's Word For Today is available from Gospel Publishing House.

Without a prayer?
While many U.S. presidents have called on our nation to pray, Christians are suddenly under attack for praying to God in public. Recently the mention of public prayer infuriates some in our increasingly pluralistic society.
