CARF Standards and Steps To Achieve Those Standards
3/29/2022
CARF's mission is to deliver accreditation benchmarks and surveyors for associations working in the human-services field globally with a base in standard establishments and institutional settings.

When a service or program is CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited, it indicates it has undergone an in-depth examination of its services and confirmed substantial conformance to the it’s norms during the on-site survey.

The service or program has shown its dedication to providing quality services that concentrate on the client’s distinctive strengths, capabilities, requirements, and tastes.

Scopes of Practice Illustrated in the CARF Standards

  • aging services;

  • behavioral health, which replaces institutional behavior governance;

  •  psychosocial rehabilitation;

  •  child and adolescents assistance (with younger and verified family assistance and support);

  •  long-lasting medical supplies, prosthetics, orthotics, and reserves;

  •  employment (e.g., work enthusiasm and evaluation) and community services;

  • medical (and society) rehabilitation;

  • and opioid therapy programs.

Benefits of CARF Accreditation

After knowing what is CARF, let’s discuss its benefits. It highlights the delivery of person-centered assistance. People helped to play a dynamic and crucial role in it’s accreditation cycle, from supporting to designing the CARF international performance norms to giving information on the quality of services they acquire.

Through accreditation, providers indicate their confidence that all people have the freedom to be treated with grace and respect, have access to required services that reach optimum results, and are authorized to exercise notified options.

Steps To Accreditation

  • Consult with a specified resource professional to obtain advice and technical aid concerning what is CARF and its accreditation process.

  • Perform a self-evaluation: The service provider runs a self-study and test for its conformance to the criteria.

  • Submit the survey application: The survey application involves precise information about administration, the schedules and services that the service provider must accredit, and the service delivery location(s).

  • Invoices for the survey cost: The CARF expenditure depends on the number of personnel of service providers and days required to conclude the survey. The CCRC fee is fixed, with extra fees if additional schedules get added to the survey.

  • Determines the survey team: Surveyors get selected by checking their program or managerial expertise and appropriate field experience with the service provider's necessities.

  • The survey team completes the survey and specifies the service provider's conformance to all appropriate CARF international criteria on-site by observing services, interviewing individuals conformed and other stakeholders, and examining documentation. Surveyors also provide advice to the personnel of service providers.

  • Generates the accreditation judgment. It studies the survey conclusions and generates one of the following accreditation judgments:

  1. CARF

  2. Three-Year Accreditation

  3. One-Year Accreditation

  4. Provisional Accreditation

  5. Nonaccreditation

  6. CCRC

  7. Five-Year Term of Accreditation

  8. Nonaccreditation

  9. Around six to eight weeks after the survey, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities declares the service provider of the accreditation judgment and mails the report and Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).

  • Propose a Quality Improvement Plan (QIP). Within 90 days following the report of the accreditation result, the service provider conducts an accreditation requirement by offering to the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities a QIP outlining moves that have been or will be taken in answer to the rooms for improvement specified in the report. The QIP form is available on the website, and you can download it from Customer Connect.

  • Submit an Annual Conformance to Quality Report (ACQR). A service provider that achieves accreditation advances to the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities a signed ACQR on the accreditation anniversary date in each year following the award. Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities dispatches the form for this report around ten weeks before it is due to the service provider.

Accredited CCRCs also submit an annual QIP with their ACQR if changes have been made.

  • It keeps in contact with the service provider during the accreditation term. Providers also get encouraged to reach Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities as required to help support conformance to the norms.
