Spring System Checks (A/C)
Most people dont think twice about getting the oil changed in their vehicles because the auto industry has educated consumers about the necessity of regular maintenance. However, when it comes to Air Conditioning people wait until the unit is broken before servicing it.
Regular air conditioning service is needed to ensure your system works as it should for as long as possible. An improperly working central airconditioning unit can cause an increase in your electric bills, and without regular maintenance you could end up with costly repairs or a replacement bill.
Helpful Hints for Maintaining Your System
1. The most important maintenance you can perform on your air conditioner is to change the filter frequently. A dirty filter can prevent your cooling system from working efficiently, reduce the air quality in your home and reduce the lifespan of your compressor. Check your filter once a month and change it as needed (at least every 3 months).
2. Examine the copper tubes (known as the refrigerant line sets) for breakdowns in their insulation and replace the insulation where needed.
3. Check the air conditioning compressor unit outside and remove any weeds, debris and tree limbs that may be obstructing air flow. Be careful not to plant bushes or plants too close to the compresssor and fill in any gopher or mole holes that may compromise the unit.
Why is the Air Conditioner Frozen? Possible Cause Number One
This is enough to cause concern because the air conditioner pipes have ice on them. Ice on air conditioning pipes is not normal. An air conditioner or heat pump is not designed to make ice. An air conditioning unit is designed to cool the home or business and it is abnormal for ice to form on an air conditioner. A heat pump will form frost or ice on the outside condenser coils in the winter time but frozen condenser coils is common and the heat pump is equipped with a method to defrost the condenser coils.
