FINDING THE RIGHT THERAPIST can be a difficult task. As I see it, one should consider the therapist's professional competence and ethics, the "match" between therapist and patient, and affordability. Whether that right therapist is me or someone else, I am glad to help in sorting out the choices. I have been in practice a good many years, have extensive experience in referral, and a good knowledge of community resources.
AREAS OF PRACTICE:
DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY: Symptoms of depression include lack of joy in living, excessive sadness, crying, hopelessness, difficulty with sleep and concentration, suicidal thoughts, slowed down and/or speeded up.
Anxiety may consist of irrational fears, panic attacks, a generalized anxiousness, hypervigilence, or just feeling on edge without apparent reason. Depression and anxiety affect almost everyone at some time or other, and they are at the forefront of my practice conerns.
RELATIONSHIPS: Marriage problems, singles relationships, gay relationships, parent-child issues, and adolescents. I am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist, and have many years of experience in helping with relationship problems of all types. I have consulted to schools and treatment centers in relation to adolescent problems.
SEXUAL ISSUES: Lack of desire; premature ejaculation; impotence; orgasm problems; needless anger with partner; unwanted sexual fantasies; gay-straight conflicts; affairs/promiscuity; and other issues. Long a specialty of my practice, I am comfortable dealing with a broad range of sexual issues.
WORK: Overwork; underperformance; difficulty getting along with superiors and colleagues; drug abuse; difficulty achieving career goals or lack of career goals. I am a member of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association, and frequently see people around work-related issues.
CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY: Alcohol and drug abuse is a continuing epedemic in our society. I have worked to help individuals, families and loved ones with these problems from the begining of my career---in schools, residential treatment centers, hospitals, half-way houses--in full cooperation with 12 step programs, such as A.A., N.A., and other self-help programs.
