Practicing since 1999, Kelly resides in East Texas. Her practice focuses on Family Law and Animal Welfare, one of the fastest growing subjects in American jurisprudence.
A major focus of the practice is the political arena where Kelly negotiates and campaigns for a variety of animal welfare issues including prohibition of “puppy mills,” horse slaughter for human consumption, and violent acts against animals. In addition, Kelly spends a great deal of her time working to strengthen the Animal Cruelty Statute (Section 42.09 and 42.092 of the Texas Penal Code). These efforts are furthered on both a state and federal level. She works directly with the Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN), a statewide political action committee formed to advance pro-animal legislation and defeat anti-animal bills and candidates. She also works with the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF), fighting to protect the lives and advance the interests of animals through the legal system, for stronger enforcement of anti-cruelty laws, and more humane treatment of animals in every corner of American life.
Kelly often aligns her goals with those of The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), working since 1954 to promote the protection of all animals. With nearly ten million members and constituents, The HSUS is the nation’s largest and most powerful animal protection organization in the world, working in the United States and abroad to defend the interests of animals.
In addition to the protection of animals, the practice focuses on the protection of families. Experienced in civil litigation, trials, and appeals, Kelly handles divorces, adoptions, child custody matters, the interests of grandparent, and issues arising from the Texas Attorney General’s Office. Throughout her legal career, Kelly has represented a variety of corporations, hospitals, and individuals in a broad spectrum of legal matters. In order to highlight her strengths and allow greater freedom working with animal protection advocates, she has elected to narrow the focus of her practice to family law. The practice has grown tremendously over the past few years with most new clients appearing on a referral from former clients or local attorneys, the highest form of praise.
