What Does La Guitarra School of Music Offer?
La Guitarra School of Music provides El Paso and surrounding areas with friendly and qualified teachers for the young as well as the young at heart. If you are looking for a music teacher with training, experience, and patience, our music school is the place for you. Our Music School has a large number of students studying "rock methods" in electric guitar, bass and voice, as well as many learning the more "traditional method" in piano, classical guitar, violin, viola, and voice.
Our music school specializes in Private Music Instruction, with lessons individually tailored to meet each student's needs and level of experience, beginner to advanced.
To complement and enhance your learning experience at La Guitarra School of Music, we have regularly scheduled performances and recitals throughout the year where interested students can perform.
At La Guitarra School of Music we strive to make music education fun for the student while still maintaining a structured and comprehensive approach.
What is the best age to learn an instrument?
Adults can start any instrument at any time. Their success is based on how willing they commit to practice. We teach many beginner, intermediate and professional adult students.
For children, starting at the right age is a key element. Some people will tell you "That the sooner, the better" but this attitude can actually backfire and be negative. If a child is put into lessons too soon they may be overwhelmed and frustrated and want to stop lessons. The last thing you want to do is turn a child away from music just because they had one unpleasant experience which could have been prevented. Children who are older than the suggested earliest starting age do very well.
The following are guidelines we have found to be successful in determining how young a child can start taking lessons.
Piano Lessons - 5 years old is the youngest age that we start children in private piano lessons. At his age the child has begun to develop longer attention spans and can retain material with ease.
Guitar Lessons - Acoustic, Electric and Bass 7 to 8 years old is the earliest we recommend for guitar lessons. Guitar playing requires a fair amount of pressure on the fingertips from pressing on the strings. Children under 7 generally have small hands and may find playing uncomfortable. Bass guitar students generally are 10 years and older.
Violin Lessons - We accept violin students form the age of 5. Some teachers will start children as young as 3, but experience has shown us the most productive learning occurs when the beginner is 5 or older.
Viola Lessons - 9 to 10 years of age is a great time to begin lessons on these instruments.
Voice Lessons - 10 years old is recommended as the youngest age for private vocal lessons. Due to the physical nature of voice lessons (proper breathing techniques, development of the vocal chords and lung capacity), the younger body is generally not yet ready for the rigors of vocal technique. For children younger than 10 we offer lessons alternating piano and singing instruction that teaches them how to use their voices properly, in a fun, relaxed environment.
