Camille Milner, and her brother Wes Milner, were the presenters of the Stu Webb Lecture at the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals 9th Annual Forum in New Orleans, Louisiana, October 18, 2008. Their presentation was entitled: JUSTICE VS. PEACE AND RECONCILIATION: Have we been asking the wrong question all along?
Since the beginning of recorded history, humanity has sought justice. From the crusades to the 21st century, society has demanded justice. Families of individual victims who have been wronged, whether in the civil or criminal realm, have craved what they believed would be satisfaction through justice. In the last twenty years, however, the world has begun to realize that justice is often an elusive, subjective and unsatisfying goal. We appear to be on the threshold of a new paradigm based upon a worldwide hunger for peace and reconciliation rather than retaliation and retribution.
Wesley Milner and Camille Milner presented and explored the place of Collaborative Practice in this evolution, placing the Collaborative movement in the global context of truth and reconciliation now employed in 23 countries around the world.
