IS YOUR MOLD ASSESSMENT CONSULTANT LICENSED?!
On January 1, 2005 the State of Texas made a giant step forward in consumer protection when The Texas Mold Assessment and Remediation Rules (TMARR) (25 TAC 295.301-295.338) began requiring ALL mold inspection services and ALL mold remediation services operating in the State of Texas to be licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services. At the same time, these rules prevent companies from offering both inspection and remediation services.
HOW DOES THIS AFFECT YOU?
Prior to these changes, an unlicensed and effectively unregulated company could inspect a property for a mold problem and then try to sell the consumer an expensive and inconvenient remediation service for the problem that they "found".
Under the new rules, a property must be inspected by a licensed Mold Assessment Consultant who will perform a visual inspection and take samples for testing by a state licensed laboratory. IF a mold-related hazard is identified, the Mold Assessment Consultant will prepare a Mold Remediation Protocol that will executed by a licensed Mold Remediation Company. After the Mold Remediation Protocol has been completed, the property will be re-inspected by the Mold Assessment Consultant to insure that the mold problem has been corrected.

In very rare cases some individuals have reported more severe symptoms allegedly caused by Black Mold contamination.
