The Potter-Randall County Medical Society is a professional association, organized to nurture continued advancement of scientific knowledge, and to maintain unity and harmony among all members of the profession. PRCMS was organized in 1903 by 18 physicians. As Amarillo grew in size and stature, so, too, did the medical community. From a membership made up entirely of general practitioners, the Society has developed into a well-rounded membership of approximately 400 active physicians, both generalists and specialists, providing medical care for persons from a five-state area surrounding Amarillo.
The Potter-Randall County Medical Society is the parent organization of two major health facilities--the A. B. Goldston Tumor Registry and the Coffee Memorial Blood Center.
Specific services of the Medical Society on a day to day basis include:
*Physician referral for persons needing a doctor. This is done on a rotating basis among the
members who are taking new patients. Educational information is given, as well as
hospitals in which the physician practices, Board Certification information,the physician's
office hours, and Medicare and Medicaid insurance information.
*Public andfee grievances.
*Workshops on current medical issues for physicians and office staff.
*Caller referrals from the general public to the appropriate health care provider.
*PANHANDLE HEALTH, a quarterly medical journal with distribution to all physicians,
health care professionals, and many citizens in the Panhandle. Subscriptions are available
by calling the Society Office.
All services of the Medical Society are free to the public. We have our own building at 1721 S. Hagy Boulevard, the second entity, completed in 1965, in the Medical Center.The Society is staffed by the Executive Director and Managing Editor of PANHANDLE HEALTH, Cindy Barnard,threeAdministrative Assistants, Susan Hellberg, Marilyn Henderson, andMarty Schantz,andFinancial Assistant, Carol McKinney.
