NCUA MEDIA RELEASE: Orange County Employees Credit Union Closes; Members Now Served by Sabine Federal Credit Union

June 9, 2010, Alexandria, Va. -- The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) was today appointed liquidating agent of Orange County Employees Credit Union (Orange County Employees) of Orange, Texas, by the Texas Credit Union Department today.
NCUA has signed an agreement with Sabine Federal Credit Union (Sabine) of Orange, Texas, to assume the assets and liabilities of Orange County Employees. Orange County Employees members will experience no interruption of credit union service. Their accounts are federally insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) up to at least $250,000.
Members will now be served at two locations, the existing office located at the Orange County Court House Annex, and the Strickland Drive location. The former Orange County Employees Credit Union will be closed Thursday, Friday, and Monday, reopening on Tuesday, June 15 as Sabine Federal Credit Union. All members of Sabine Federal Credit Union can be served at both locations.

In today’s busy lifestyle, we know that convenience is a top priority. That’s why Sabine Federal Credit Union has joined a national network of cooperative credit unions called shared branching. This will give our credit union members easy access to your accounts at thousands of locations nationwide. At these locations, you can deposit, withdraw, or transfer your money. You can also make loan payments. Simply choose the participating credit union that is most convenient for you to conduct your financial transactions just as you would at Sabine Federal Credit Union. All you need is your account number, identification, and the name of our Credit Union. The final consolidation of the Federal Reserve check-processing regions has occurred, resulting in a single check processing region in the United States. As a result of this change, all deposited checks will be considered local and there will no longer be any checks that are nonlocal for purposes of your credit union's funds availability policy. That means that instead of a five day hold, there will only be a two-day hold in most cases where holds are placed.

There have been several attempts to retrieve personal information from our members, but these members are savvy and did not take the bait. They shared their stories with us so that we can help prevent others from fraud. Please note that several of these scam artists have perfected their techniques to make the request seem authentic, like it was sent from a legitimate source. The main thing to remember is to NEVER, ever give out your account number, social security number, user names, passwords, PIN (personal identification numbers) or any other personal information to a phone call, text, or email which you did not initiate.
