Linda Sioux Henleys penchant for Western Art came naturally as her family participated in professional rodeos throughout her early years. She is a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and a direct descendant of Alamo defender Gordon C. Jennings, one of the oldest heroes in the famous battle. Through her mother, Linda acquired her Cherokee heritage. Her artistry first came in hair styling where she owned her salon for 13 years. A friend urged her to try cake decorating, and she became a prize-winning student and teacher in the field. At this point, she decided she would like to be creating more lasting Art, and she enrolled in a sculpting class at the Cowboy Artists Museum in Kerrville, TX. Henley now works in several medias including bronze sculpture and oil Painting, but clay sculpting is her favorite. Her Sinapau Studio-Sinapau meaning Sacred Fire in the native tongue-features her stoneware depictions of the majestic Indians of the American West and their culture.
In 1990, Henley was commissioned by Opryland, Nashville, TN., to sculpt her first life size bronze. The "Folklorico Dancer" bronze sculpture was placed at Fiesta Texas, now Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio,TX.
The Daughters of the Republic of Texas district VIII
commissioned Henley to design and create a life size bronze sculpture to Honor the Texas Pioneer Woman. In 1998, the bronze sculpture "Honoring Early Texas Pioneer Women", was placed on the Texas State Capitol grounds.
Linda Sioux Henley's art graces collections around the World. Her award-winning art graces collections around the World and have been viewed in galleries throughout the United States, Canada and Germany.
