The future of Highland Park High School boys golf showed his remarkable talent last week at the NTPGA Legends Tour annual Byron Nelson Invitational Junior Tournament at Lakewood Country Club. Scot freshman-to-be Scott Scheffler finished second behind Jesuit sensation Jordan Spieth, who successfully defended his title.

It comes as no surprise that a group of Highland Park High School baseball players has recently been honored by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association, formed in 1972, with All-State Academic Team awards. The Scots had five players (most in state) named to the prestigious group. Players much maintain a 94 average in every subject throughout the season. The tradition of excellence in the classroom and on the playing field is still very much alive at the states top high school athletic program.
The 2010 THSBC Academic All-State players from HP include: Highland Park captain J.B. Gadd along with fellow seniors Trey Laidlaw, Cody Walker, Clark Wilson, and Ben Zieman were all recognized for their talents as baseball players and true student-athletes.
Highland Park senior captain Ryan Gros was also selected by the THSBCA as the All-State Second Team third-baseman. Gros will continue to pursue his baseball career next year at Panola Junior College in Carthage.
The National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association has named five members of the Highland Park Blue Wave swimming and diving team to the 2009-2010 All-American team. Swimmers Allison Arnold, Katie Streepey, Tanner Harris, Emma Gruber, and diver Lindsey Streepey earned their prestigious honors while helping the Highland Park girls win their tenth consecutive UIL state championship last February in Austin.
The National Federation of High Schools reports that their were 158,878 girls participating in high school swimming last year on 6,902 teams. To be named All-American swimmers, divers, and relay teams must post a time or score in the top 130 in the nation.
