Lakewood is part of the TRINITY BRAZOS AREA of the CHRISTIAN CHURCH (Disciples of Christ) . The denomination was founded almost 200 years ago in the United States and is the first indigenous denomination to be founded in America .
To that end, there are no creeds, doctrines, or ethical positions taken by the church. Instead, emphasis is placed on personal responsibility in developing one's beliefs and morals as we each grow in our faith in Jesus Christ, and in love for all people. Personal freedom and "unity amidst diversity" are highly valued in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and this is certainly true at Lakewood - "An open door to a vital faith" since 1957.
