Having Your Pet Groomed
Grooming should be an enjoyable part of your dog's life. Start them as young as possible by bringing them in as soon as you get them, so the process of grooming can be part of your initial play/learning. We will introduce your puppy to the brush, and to nail trimming and ear cleaning, just so they can begin to learn to stand on a table and not be frightened. You can help a lot by fondling their ears and handling their feet while cuddling your new puppy, so they get used to being held in these areas. Please realize that your dog should be groomed at regular intervals. Too many owners leave the dog for months between grooms, then wonder why they have to be shaved down. The breed is the main factor in how often the dog will need to be groomed. Poodles in shorter, plain cuts, could go 6 weeks between grooms, while fancy cuts should be done once a month. Lhasa Apsos, Shih Tzus and Maltese terriers need to be groomed every 4 to 6 weeks, provided you brush them properly and regularly. Wire-haired and course-haired terriers might go 2 months. Without frequent home brushing, a visit every 2 or 3 weeks will be required. We will happily show you how to deep brush your pet to keep them looking good and feeling great Please ask. If you don't have time to do any brushing, talk to us we have some customers who bring their dog once a week. This saves you brushing, keeps your pet in peak condition, and because our work is correspondingly less, we will work out a reduced fee for you. Dogs love regularity, and a weekly visit to the groomer becomes a highlight in your pet's routine. Here is a very important rule If your dog is matted, do not bath it. This only makes the matts tighter, and matts left unattended will get tighter and tighter until the hair is pulled right out of the skin. Needless to say, this is very painful for the dog. If your dog is matted, please do not try and cut out the mats before coming to us. It is too easy to injure your pet we have special tools and techniques to remove mats safely and humanely. What we call a Full Love Groom includes de-matting (eased out or clipped off, as necessary); double-shampoo bath and flea dip; ear cleaning, hair removal and shaping; belly shave; nail trim and pad hair removal; deep brush; body clip, shaping and finishing. Prices range from $25 to $80 depending on the amount of work to be done (depends on matts, coat condition, how cooperative the dog is, its size and so on.)
