Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
Be patient, therefore, beloved, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near. Beloved, do not grumble against one another, so that you may not be judged. See, the Judge is standing at the doors! As an example of suffering and patience, beloved, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Indeed we call blessed those who showed endurance. You have heard of the endurance of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.
Reflection Questions…after reading the text, answer the following:

How does the farmer demonstrate faith in his vocation?
Who have been role models of generosity in your life? What did these models do?
Where are you in your giving life and where do you want to be?

We Fit: Faith Workout for Spiritual Fitness – Working the Core
James 1:17 & 5:7-11
On this Commitment Sunday we conclude our Stewardship faith workout focusing on generous giving. Our text from James stresses the character traits of patience and perseverance in running the race of life. The Old and New Testaments hold up generosity as a key test of trust in God. Come this Sunday as we dedicate our 2011 gifts to the glory of God.
