When to start dental checkups?
Care of children's teeth begins in early infancy: Fluoride supplements are given to babies who have no fluoride in their water beginning at age six months; babies should not be put to sleep with a bottle to prevent nursing bottle tooth decay; infants' teeth should be wiped clean daily and then brushed when the child is a year of age; and excessive intake of candy and other sticky snacks that promote tooth decay should be avoided.
Routine dental care in the dentist's office should begin at the age of three years. Many parents going to the dentist take along their toddlers to familiarize the little ones with the routine. Nevertheless, many perfectly normal three-year-olds will not allow the dentist to examine them. An attempt should be made, however. Some children may need to see a dentist before the age of three -- they include children with dental decay, children with trauma to a tooth from a fall or other injury, or any child whenever the parent or pediatrician has concerns about the child's teeth.
We offer an office atmosphere which is comfortable and caring for children.
