Corpus Christi is a coastal city in the South Texas region of the U.S. state of Texas. The county seat of Nueces County.

The population is about 285,00 making it the eighth-largest city in the state.

It is the principal city of the three-county Corpus Christi Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The translation from Latin of the city's name is Body of Christ.

The city has been nicknamed The Sparkling City by the Sea, particularly in literature promoting tourism. The city is home to the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and is served by the Corpus Christi International Airport.

Port Aransas is a city in Nueces County on Mustang Island, across Aransas Bay from the Aransas Pass.

The area experiences an average annual rainfall of 31.92 inches, with prevailing winds out of the Southeast from the Gulf of Mexico. Average high temperatures in the summer months exceed 90F with dewpoint temperatures in the middle to upper 70s, while average nighttime winter lows in January, the coldest month, are slightly less than 50 F.

Mustang Island is a barrier island on the Gulf Coast of Texas in the United States. The island is 18 miles long, stretching from Corpus Christi to Port Aransas.

The island is oriented generally northeast-southwest, with the Gulf of Mexico on the east and south, and Corpus Christi Bay on the north and west. The island's southern end connects by roadway to Padre Island.

At the northern end of the island is Aransas Pass, beyond which is San Jos Island (also known as Saint Joseph Island). Aransas Pass is protected by jetties extending into the Gulf from both Mustang Island and San Jos Island.

Mustang Island is a coastal barrier island with a unique and complicated ecosystem, dependent upon sand dunes. Coastal dunes are the product of wind-deposited sand anchored by sparse mats of vegetation. The height of well-vegetated dunes may reach 35 feet, though 15-20 feet is average.

The dunes are capable of reducing the destructive might of hurricane-driven waves and protecting bay and mainland areas. In some areas, inland and bayside dunes occur, which are generally smaller but spread over larger areas than the primary beach-side dunes.

The vegetation holding the dunes in place is drought-resistant species such as sea oats, beach panic grass, and soilbind morning glory. Studies have shown that these plants and their progeny can collect enough sand to build a 15-foot dune in three years.

North Padre Island is a barrier island along the coast of Texas. It is located between Padre Island and Mustang Island. Most of the island is in the city of Corpus Christi.
