Galveston Ballet is a regional pre-professional ballet company and academy offering a full range of instruction in classical ballet.
We serve Galveston County residents, ages three through adult, with a variety of cultural backgrounds and varied socio-economic status.

The mission of Galveston Ballet is two-fold 1) to offer the young people of Galveston County the opportunity to participate in a learning company where they can experience the discipline and beauty of ballet and develop their skills and talents in this domain; 2) to enrich the cultural life of the entire community by presenting performances of great classical and contemporary works each year.
Purpose of Organization:
Galveston ballet's current programs include Training, Performance, Community Education, and Scholarship.
Training: Galveston Ballet currently offers classes for ages three through adult. The members of the performing company study technique ten hours per week. Galveston Ballet also offers a variety of summer programs including 'Fairy Tale Camp' for students 4-6, Summer Intensive for teenagers and adults, and has hosted a Russian Workshop with guest artists.

Galveston Ballet presents one full-length classical ballet in the spring of each year and one mixed repertory program each fall. Ballets performed have included Coppelia, Giselle, La Fille mal Garde, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, the Firebird, Don Quixote, La Bayadere and Napoli as well as excerpts from many other ballets. Both performances are held at the Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston, Texas.

Galveston Ballet's Dance in Schools program seeks to educate and enhance the quality of life for Galveston's public school students. Through lecture, demonstration, hands-on activities and performance, Dance in Schools introduces students to classical and contemporary ballet, seeking to create an appreciation for the fine art of dance. Through this interactive presentation students learn the history of ballet. The dancer's need for physical fitness, discipline, and athleticism is emphasized. Audience members have the opportunity to ask and answer questions. Students interact with ballet company dancers, interpret dance gestures, try on costumes, examine pointe shoes, and explore simple ballet positions and movements. To further supplement and enrich the student's knowledge of ballet, a specially prepared TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) worksheet is provided. At the conclusion of the in-school program, students who are interested in obtaining one of 8 scholarships to study ballet are invited to write an essay as to why they would like to join a ballet company. The essays are reviewed by a selection committee and the winning students receive a one year ballet scholarship, class uniform, and shoes. The highlight of the Dance in Schools program is a free children's matinee. This year, Galveston Ballet will present the ballet, "Peter and the Wolf" with an ensemble orchestra at Galveston's historical Grand 1894 Opera House, the official opera house of Texas.

Needs based and work study scholarships may be available. Galveston Ballet strives to be in a financial position where no child wanting to dance will be turned away.
