Board certified specialist in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization
I was born in San Angelo, Texas, on Christmas Day, 1949. I received my bachelor’s degree in government from the University of Texas at Austin in 1972, then my Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976. When I left law school I went to work as an Assistant Criminal District Attorney for Tarrant County, Texas. I served in that office for 5 years, then joined the Dallas law firm of Burleson, Pate and Gibson in 1981. In 1984, I returned to Fort Worth as a sole practitioner where I still practice law.
I am board certified as a specialist in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. I have been so certified since 1988. I served as President of the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association in 1991. I am currently the President of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. I have an AV rating from Martindale Hubble, the only nationwide peer rating of lawyers. The AV rating is the highest rating Martindale Hubble offers. I have been elected a Texas Monthly Super Lawyer in Criminal Law each year since 2004. I am also a member to the Tarrant County Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
I write and lecture often in criminal law subjects. I practice both trial and appellate criminal law in both state and federal court. I have been defense counsel in several capital murder cases in state and federal court. I am licensed to practice in all Courts in the State of Texas, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
I represent people accused of crime in serious misdemeanors and all felonies.
This site was hacked recently by someone apparently from Russia. I hope to be re-posting several papers I have written on criminal law subjects by August 2, 2010. I appreciate your patience.
