Assess brown or yellow patches in your lawn for fungus or chinch bug damage. Test for chinch bugs by pressing a hollow tube (cut top and bottom out of a coffee or other can) into sod about 2 deep. Fill the hole with water and look for wiggling black bugs on surface of the water.
Treat chinch bugs with a DE & pyrethrum mix dusted into the soil.
To treat fungal problems, aerate those areas and apply -1" Humax for Lawns.
Sow bermuda grass seed before it gets too late in the season.
Keep plants well mulched and watered. August is hot, this gives the plants a time to slow down and rest.
Foliar feeding (at dawn) weekly with seaweed really helps the plants withstand the stress of prolonged heat..it will also help camellias and azaleas set bloom for the next season.
Late August, plan your areas where you want to throw out wildflower seeds, then scratch the soil, throw out the seeds, and let the hot Texas weather and Mother Nature do the rest.
Clean and fill your hummingbird feeders with fresh nectar twice weekly.
Relax with a glass of lemonade under a shade tree, and wait for cooler weather. Fall is right around the corner....
