God bless you, your family, your work, your leisure and all of your life, so that you may glorify God in your vocation of being full time disciples of Jesus Christ, living in faith and living faithfully.
The month of the national Thanksgiving Holiday is upon us and we look forward to it, knowing, of course that all months, weeks and days are meant to be lived in and with Thanksgiving. I wish you and your family a very blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.
We will celebrate Thanksgiving with a special Wednesday night Thanksgiving Service on November 24th at 7:00 PM as we gather together around our Father's Table offering our thanks and receiving the meal of Holy Communion.
But Thanksgiving also brings the time of the year when we begin to think about our giving thanks with the tithes and offerings that we dedicate to God as gifts to God through God's church. Our Consecration Sunday this year is November 21st. We have done our Plans for Serving in late August as we prepared for the beginning of the school year and program year here at St. John. The Plans for Giving emphasis is done in November allowing us a chance to consider our potential income for the coming year and then make our plans of giving our financial gifts to God.
Hopefully, you have received a special mailing including the full information Consecration Sunday and that you will be in worship that day to consecrate your self, your plans for giving and your complete life to God. Our total giving is always based on thanksgiving and represents a percentage of our income returned to God. We never give to a budget. At the same time, St. John budgeted needs this year might cause us to consider how we divide our charitable giving.
If it is possible for families to increase the amount designated for St. John and our ministry here and around the world, we would certainly encourage that increase in giving.
