As of 2008, Texas held the second highest percentage of people living in food insecure households with 16.3% of its population. Many families in Denton, Texas are living in poverty, uncertain of how they will buy their food for the next week. At Asbury United Methodist church, there is a program called the Asbury Relief Ministry (ARM) that seeks to help those people that do not have the means to buy sufficient food. The church opens its doors at 117 Hercules Lane, Denton Texas every Monday morning from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, and every Monday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. During each time, thirty families are given a weeks worth of groceries according to the number of people in their household. Many people are needed to make the hours go by smoothly. People are needed to run the information desk, pack the groceries, and take the food out to the cars. The program is also in much need of help every Friday morning when the food is brought to the church from the food bank. People are needed to both drive to the food bank to pick up the food and to be at church to unload it when it arrives. Unloading the large quantities of food can be a difficult task, so assistance is always needed; the more people that help, the faster it gets unloaded. Aside from physical help, donations are always appreciated. Items such as canned goods, pasta, juice, condiments, cereal, toiletries, dish soap, laundry detergent, feminine products, diapers, etc. are always welcome. This ministry makes a difference in the lives of people by touching their hearts, as well as meeting their physical needs. ARMs co-director, Kathleen McHargue, shares a story that demonstrates the impact of this ministry. We had one lady come in who asked how long she had before she had to pay us back. When I said it was completely free, she broke down crying out of joy. Everything you give helps ensure that 60 families every week will have the food they need and the love they seek. Please spare whatever resources you can, whether its time or products, to make sure that the struggling people in North Texas will have a meal to put before their families.

Saturday, October 30th from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
This year we are asking that all women of Asbury participate in the bazaar by contributing in at least one of the following ways:
Bazaar craft items, Food items (baked goods, candy, etc), Monetary Donations.
We want the church to know that every cent we earn through the bazaar goes back to Asbury Ministries. We will be setting up for the Bazaar on Friday, October 28th from 3 to 6 P.M. It would be very helpful to bring your bazaar items (already priced) during this time if possible. (Be sure to stay for the Fall Festival from 2 to 4 P.M after the Bazaar!!!)
