This site has been created for those individuals who want to preserve the quality, craftsmanship, and beauty of the older pianos. With our modern lifestyles, we sometimes tend to forget that the older instruments were manufactured at a time when the workmanship and materials used were a matter of pride and integrity. Too many times our customers have been told: "That is just an old worn out grand or old upright piano." "It cannot be repaired and you should get rid of it and buy a new instrument." We totally disagree! Ninety percent of the older instruments can be restored to their former glory. In addition to having a wonderful piano, many of these great instruments have a "family history" that cannot be found in a "new" piano. Sometimes that fact makes that piano more valuable than anything else.
P. Williams, Piano Restorations has been in business for over 35 years, serving the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The location of the shop is 35 miles north of Dallas and Fort Worth in the small town of Krum, Texas.
The original purpose of this business was to service those individuals who value the older instrument. We provide services including tuning, repair, and complete restoration.
Our original purpose still exists.
The shop is capable of all forms of restoration and piano refurbishment including piano action refurbishment, piano restringing, soundboard reconstruction, and case restoration. We are proud that all major piano rebuilding operations are done "in-house". Our facilities include specific areas for parts fabrication, duplication, and refurbishment. It is important to us to get as close to the originals as possible.
Since the availability of parts for player components has diminished significantly and if available are extremely expensive, We had to find a way to make these great instruments play by themselves again.
We did this by installing electronic player systems such as "Pianomation" by QRS. In instruments that were originally players or non-players, these electronic systems provide the same or better performance to original roll players. Plus, these systems add an audio track that supports the piano with other instruments. This is of great joy to those customers who do not personally play the piano but want to enjoy its music.
We strive to reproduce the quality craftsmanship and materials that the original piano manufacturers utilized. We appreciate the hard work of those who designed these wonderful instruments and those people who dedicated themselves to building the instruments.
Instruments from many states are shipped directly into the facility for refurbishment. Many have been in the same family for generations and are family heirlooms that people want to pass down to their children or grandchildren. We want to help create more memories through the music of those instruments.
Included in this site are photographs of various stages of work in progress: "before" the restoration, what happens "during" restoration, and finally, the "after" photograph of the completed instruments. You will also find sections devoted to the various types of pianos and their particular specializations.

The Bush & Lane Piano Company was established in 1901. They were originally located in Chicago, Illinois. After several years a factory and offices were constructed in Holland, Michigan. Bush & Lane produced some of the finest upright pianos ever made by an American manufacturer. They produced a few grand pianos but their reputation was established largely upon their upright pianos.
The "Bush" in Bush & Lane referred to the two Bush brothers of Bush and Gerts fame. Those were money men working at the commercial end of the production spectrum. The design genius was Walter Lane, who, like Ernest Knabe, is all but forgotten and relegated to a mere footnote in the history of the American piano. He deserves to be remembered.
Bush & Lane was noted for their massive cases, heavy cupular plate construction, and a series of soundboard, bridge, and framework innovations all designed to give them a quality of tone, projection, and carrying power second to none. In this respect, the Bush & Lane could give similar vintage uprights produced by the likes of Steinway, Mason & Hamlin, Knabe, and Weber a real run for their money. The single best upright that I have heard in terms of tone-quality, projection, and carrying power is this Bush & Lane. In a list of the top 10, three would be Bush & Lanes, the others Steinway, Weber, Knabe, and etc. They were that good!
From first to last, the Bush & Lane company of Walter Lane was a first-class operation. They produced expensive, limited-production instruments of the highest quality. As they lived, so did they die. The crash of 1929 and the ensuing "Great Depression" killed off the piano industry almost overnight. In 1925, 3/4 of all the pianos made were player pianos. By 1930, they were almost all gone. Those companies that survived did so by merging with other companies and corporations such as Aeolian.
In 1930 Walter Lane had a decision to make. He could either return to making non-player pianos once again, and probably have to compromise quality in favor of economic survival like his competitors. He could sell out his corporate soul and reputation to Aeolian, like so many others chose to do. Or, he could simply call it quits, close up shop, and let his reputation rest on what he had accomplished during the preceding thirty years.
A class act to the very end, he chose the latter option.
