Prepare Yourself For A Luxurious, Relaxing, Unique Stay.
Casa Rama Bed and Breakfast invites you to enjoy a luxurious, relaxing, and unique experience. Casa Rama is an elegantly restored Mediterranean-style mansion, which is situated a few blocks from the center of downtown Harlingen. Our guests will revel in the historic home's lavish atmosphere and the ambiance of Taylor Street, which was nicknamed "Silk Stocking Row" in the 1930s.
Built in 1931, Casa Rama's original owners were R.L. and Ola Hill. The Hills maintained thriving ice plants throughout the lower Rio Grande Valley, spreading from Rio Grande City to Brownsville, Texas. Mr. Hill went into a partnership with H.E. Butt to build a large food-processing factory in Harlingen. Mr. Butt went on to be a successful grocer whose namesake is a huge grocery chain throughout the state of Texas. At their historical house, the Hills catered to illustrious guests, such as Eleanor Roosevelt and Governor W. Lee OíDaniels.
Casa Rama has distinguished architectural features, which include arched doorways and windows, as well as a 550-pound, hand-carved front door. The panels of this mesquite door portray four historical scenes, describing the evolution of the valley from a bushy area inhabited by Indians to the current valley of citrus and palm trees.
The current owners of Casa Rama have preserved an impressive collection of rare treasures from around the world, with which they have elegantly decorated the house. The treasures add a unique quality to the historic home that cannot be found elsewhere. The beautiful home is available for tours, and it can also be rented for photo shoots, small retreats, meetings, and private parties. Upon request, gift certificates are also available.
Casa Rama accepts payment through the form of MasterCard, Visa, Discover/Novus, American Express, personal travelerís checks, and cash.
