Sweeny Community Hospital to Open New Wound Treatment and Hyperbaric Care Center

Sweeny Community Hospital in partnership with HyperbaRxs, LLC will open its new Wound Treatment and Hyperbaric Care Center on November 1.
The program specializes in the treatment of chronic, non-healing wounds. The center also features state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), a treatment in which the patient breathes 100 percent oxygen inside a pressurized chamber.
“We are very excited to add this vital service to the continuum of care for the Hospital District,” said William H. Barnes Administrator/CEO of SCH. “Our entire wound care team is dedicated to healing problem wounds and helping our patients to reclaim their quality of life.” We have three exam rooms, two hyperbaric chambers, five employees and five certified wound treatment/HBOT physicians on our staff to see patients.
HBOT quickly delivers high concentrations of oxygen to the bloodstream and assists in the healing process of wounds. It is also effective in fighting certain types of infections, stimulates the growth of new blood vessels and improves circulation. HBOT is also used to treat crush injuries, some types of infections, skin grafts and flaps, brown recluse spider bites and diabetic wounds of the lower extremity.
Nationally, approximately 7 million people suffer from wounds that will not heal–a serious problem that can lead to amputation of limbs and dramatically impaired quality of life. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins and immobility, non-healing wounds occur most frequently in the elderly and people with diabetes–populations that are sharply rising as the nation ages and chronic diseases increase.
Sweeny Community Hospital will host an open house to the public from 5:00 to 6:30 on October 28th.

SWEENY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL FIRST IN THE COUNTY TO ADD A POWERFUL NEW TOOL IN THE FIGHT FOR EARLY DETECTION OF BREAST CANCER
By Adding GE Healthcares New Senographe Essential Digital Mammography System , advances continue in Diagnostic Imaging at Sweeny Community Hospital.
This year in America, more than 184,450 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Today, Sweeny Community Hospital advanced the fight against this pervasive disease by installing a new cutting edge digital mammography system for its patients.
This system, a GE Healthcare Senographe Digital Mammography system, provides physicians with clear and precise all-digital images, rather than images on X-ray film. Whats more, the system provides the largest field of view currently available, which can be extremely helpful for precision imaging of patients.
There are many advantages to a digital system. The images are clear and easy to read, and it offers an excellent view of the breast, especially near the skin line, chest wall and in women with diverse breast tissue types. Digital mammograms take as little as half the time of film. And if a second opinion is needed, the image can be sent electronically to a consulting physician virtually instantaneously.
The Senographe Essential at Sweeny Community Hospital is equipped with the IDI Mammo Review Workstation. This workstation allows physicians to simply, quickly, and easily review patients images, including information from multi-modality studies, at a single point of review. Physicians have the ability to pull up a patients previous mammography exams for historical comparison or for comparison against other types of images, such as those acquired by ultrasound or MR, resulting in a more comprehensive view of a specific patients medical history. The workstation also simplifies the sharing of information and images to referring physicians and surgeons.
Sweeny Community Hospital will be scheduling employees and Auxiliary before the end of October and patients starting November 8th. Please call 548-1586.
