What Makes Us Different
At Oak Crest Private School student progress is not limited by age or classmates. Once a child has mastered the materials being learned, he is ready to move up to more challenging material, and he or she will be moved to the next level. Gradually the materials become more and more challenging, but with the solid foundation that has been built, students are ready.
By the time children are in Middle School, they read several books every week and their vocabulary keeps growing with each additional volume read. They become comfortable with a wide variety of books including fiction, nonfiction, history, historical fiction, biographies and autobiographies.
At Oak Crest Private School we do not teach for the test. What actually occurs is just the opposite! American educator, L. Ron Hubbard wrote: The only reason for studying something is to be able to apply what you have studied. There really isn't any other good reason for being educated. Many people think they study only so they can pass a test. That is not a very good reason for studying. If you studied something so you could do something in life, that would be a worthwhile reason for studying.
Oak Crest Private School students are constantly asked to show how they can use their materials. Math is tremendously hands-on. Science courses go from one experiment to the next so that students can actually see the principles being taught in operation. Reading about history is brought to life by field trips to see what life in the past was like. Not only does this approach maintain and even increase a student's interest in his courses, but it results in children who can confidently go out and use what they have learned. Isn't the ability to do that the reason we all wanted to learn in the first place?
Our students strengthen and expand their abilities throughout each school year. They do not become burdened with an ever-increasing amount of partially or wrongly understood material. We work hard to maintain and increase a child's innate joy of learning. We measure our success by the degree of increase we see in our students' desire to continue discovering new knowledge and to use what they have learned in the world around them.
Private School A Decade In The Dallas Area
Oak Crest Private School is a co-educational private school, founded in 1999 and located in Carrollton, Texas, near the President George Bush Turnpike and 35E.
With a very small student/teacher ratio, we deliver a great deal of one-on-one attention.

MISSION: Our mission is to educate bright students using the best available study methods and curriculum so that they have a solid educational foundation that sets them up to excel in their future learning.
PURPOSE: Our purpose is to deliver a thorough, individualized education that aligns with the students goals and the parents wishes for the child. It is to create a safe, nurturing environment for children of all ethnicities and religious backgrounds that is built on respect and friendly relationships, both between children and adults.

We feel that it is vital that the children have a solid grounding in the basics (reading, writing, mathematics) from which they can expand into any field they may choose. Not only should a student master these underlying tools very well, but he should then be able to apply what he has learned.
We Stress Practical Application in Life
Our teaching and study methods stress practical application, and whenever possible, students work with the actual material or objects being studied. In this way, the student is able to evaluate new information learned and compare its value to the real world.
Our school is licensed to use the Heron Basics Curriculum: a rich, diverse, individualized and practical program which focuses on real-world application and responsibility of the individual. The children are taught very effective learning techniques utilizing the educational philosophies of L. Ron Hubbard. A full description of these methods can be found at Applied Scholastics.
Reading has always been the key to ones education. Starting with a strong foundation in phonetics and moving through an intensive reading program, the student is introduced in a personal way to history, science and geography. This results in a student who reads well, reads a wide variety of books and literature, and through this enjoys reading also.
The Math Facts on the Computer Program is a supporting part of the Heron Basics Mathematics Program that teaches a student to know the facts of arithmetic on an instant response basis. This program uses a computer to present math facts to the student requiring the student to enter the correct answer.
It requires regular drilling of 15-30 minutes daily, and results in students having the tool of instant response ability while doing their other mathematics. Arithmetic just becomes an invisible skill so students can put their energy into getting on with actual mathematics learning. There is also a mental math section that gives students practice in rapidly figuring out problems in their heads.
These programs are supplemented by supervised independent study courses in Learning and Study, Geography, History, and Science delivered to children as they become ready for them. These courses stress a hands-on approach that demands that students can apply what has been learned.
No course is passed until the student understands all of the material in it, so no letter grades are given. There are, however, progress reports that let a parent see how rapidly their child is progressing.
Art, Music, Physical Education & Field Trips
The schools Art class has the dual purpose of teaching the joy of creating art as well as the appreciation of well-known artists. Music, like-wise, has a two-pronged approach with some time spent in listening and learning about music, and the remainder spent stressing the fun of singing. All students participate in P.E.
No study is meaningful unless it can be related to the real world, so in addition to all of this classroom work, the school has frequent field trips. The school has visited the Museum of Nature and Science, city hall, the 911 emergency center, a fire station, the Fort Worth Zoo, the Kimbell Art Museum, the symphony and many other locations.
