Step back in time in our two story Dutch Colonial Revival home. Built around the turn of the century. The Charles House is located 3 short blocks from historic downtown. We offer three large guest rooms with private baths.
In the late 1800's Jefferson was one of the busiest cities in the Southwest. It was the fifth largest city and largest inland port in
Texas. Stearnwheel steamboats snaked their way up the then quite large Big Cypress Bayou from Shreveport, New Orleans
and other locations along the Mississippi River. Cotton and timber were the main exports. Jefferson supplied Northeast Texas
plantation owners the farthest inland port in Texas.
A lot of the history of Jefferson can still be seen. Just walk the brick downtown streets and you can see, feel and live the history behind this great town. Visit the many antique and crafts shops or take a trip to the past in Jefferson's Historical Museum, containing many of Jefferson's most important artifacts.
And after a long day, relax on our comfortable front porch and watch the world go by.
