Montessori Rainbow School was founded in 1994 by the owner and director, Mrs. Donna Hutto. Mrs. Hutto taught at a local Montessori school during her older daughters preschool years. After the birth of her second daughter, Mrs. Hutto decided to stay home to raise her youngest daughter while at the same time offering Montessori education to other children in her home. A larger demand and waiting list led Mrs. Hutto to expand her operations into a small lease space in 2002, with the hopes of moving into a permanent location at a later time. The school stayed at or near capacity for the next three years with very little advertisement at that location. Most students were enrolled by word-of-mouth referrals. In May of 2005, Montessori Rainbow School moved into its current location, previously a daycare center called Bright Steps. All of the students began classes at the new location in July of 2005. Mrs. Huttos pursuit of great education for young people says a lot for our program and the talented staff.
As the school expands, we strive to keep the same small, family-type feel. We still maintain a very low student-to-teacher ratio. In the Toddlers and Beginners Classes, there is an average of 6 students to 1 teacher; in the Pre-School and Kindergarten Classes, there are no more than 10 students to 1 teacher. Smaller classes allow us to give a much more personal, hands-on approach to instruction.
Our main focus is the education of your child in all aspects. Our goal is to help children become well-rounded students. They benefit from exposure to academic as well as practical life and social skills. Extended care children receive this personal attention as well.
Our staff is fully trained and genuinely committed to the children at this school. We have Montessori certified teachers in each classroom, including Mrs. Hutto, with additional aides during the day. Most of our teacher aides do their Montessori teacher internship here as well. Our after-school staff is comprised of education majors from nearby universities, thus ensuring that your child will have a very positive experience here. Unlike most daycares, our staff maintains longevity. Several of our teachers have at least seven years, and an average of fourteen years teaching experience.
We offer options for enrichment classes, including Spanish and Computer classes. We are in the process of starting new classes in Ballet and piano. These are optional classes that you may wish to enroll your child for an additional low monthly tuition. In addition, we offer Yoga classes with a certified yoga instructor. Yoga is offered to all students over three years of age and is included in your monthly tuition.
We have personal references available upon request. If at any time you would like to speak with the parents of a existing student, please give us a call. We will provide their names and phone numbers.
Thank you again for your interest in Montessori Rainbow School, and we hope that you will choose our school for the education of your child.
Today we had a great card from one of your teachers about my son. It quite literally brought tears to my eyes to hear how cared for, included and accepted he has been at MRS. It was great to read about all his good qualities the things I see when I look at him, but oftentimes the things the world chooses to ignore with they see a person with a disability.
As you know, our goal is for our son to live independently someday. Most of the time the public schools look to segregate people with disabilities into life skills classes and out of the general education classes. This is not acceptable to us and would keep him from developing the kinds of relationships that will allow him to live independently with the help of peers. You should know that you have helped put us on a path to this goal. Because you were able to help him be successful in a typical class, we can show the public schools that regular classrooms can work for our son. When we did his education evaluation, his socialization tested in the normal range, which I attribute directly to his full inclusion in typical situations such as MRS.
You reached out and took a chance on us. He is better for it and I think all he has touched at the school are better for it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I did a lot of research before enrolling my eldest daughter at MRS. I was especially impressed with the level of dedication Ms. Donna and her staff offered in transitioning my daughter into a new social and academic environment. They have always been eager to work closely with me to help my daughter grow into her own confidence and independence. I have since enrolled my younger daughter and am equally pleased to see that she is thriving at MRS. I cant say enough about the support and encouragement my family and I have received at Montessori Rainbow School.
