Emeric DeGaul Estate Broker is an expert estate broker of antiquities, fine art, furnishings, books, silver, fine jewelry and other collectibles.
The ServicesPrimarily, we conduct "on-premises" estate, inventory and household liquidation sales of personal property. This includes antiques, fine furnishings, art, silver, jewelry, collectibles, books and all other fine household accessories. If you have quality merchandise for sale but a public sale event is not possible from your premises, no problem! We can facilitate the transport of your merchandise to an appropriate location. Additionally, we can conduct private, invitation-only sales.
The ProcessAnd it is a process! Typically, with an on-premises sale, the sale begins the moment that you, the client, give us the keys to the premises and say, "Emeric, everything in here is for sale." At this point, we have a contractual obligation to you to account for and collect money for all sale merchandise. Depending on the quantity and quality of the merchandise, the sale will usually conclude seven to 14 days later. Some estates may require more time. There is a lot of work required during this sale process, such as organizing the premises, displaying the merchandise, pricing the merchandise, advertising and signage.
Our firm has an experienced and professional staff dedicated to these tasks. Often, we will also begin by selling privately by appointment. We have a "short list" of buyers for quality items who pay premium prices. They tend to buy items that we call "security risk" items, such as silver, art crystal, porcelains, rare books, jewelry, etc. (things that might be lost or damaged during a public event). Consequently, shrinkage becomes a minor concern. Finally comes the part of the sale you might be more familiar with: Ads in the newspaper, signs in the neighborhood and yard, and tons of people coming and going. This part is important to enable the sale of more ordinary items. During this entire process, we take great care to protect your merchandise and premises. Emeric DeGaul takes it upon himself to treat the items as if they were his own personal treasures and house.
Unsold ItemsThere always are some unsold items. They tend to be the most undesirable items. We can facilitate the bulk removal of these items, leaving your premises empty, or we can leave the unsold items "AS-IS" for a charity of your choice to pick up.

We usually are engaged to work on a commission basis. The standard rate is 30%, from which we pay all the expenses (advertising, staff, etc.). The estate takes 70% of the gross sale proceeds. All estates are different, so this rate may vary depending on the nature of the merchandise and of the premises.
ConsultationThere is no cost or obligation to have us come out and see what you have. Once we have seen what you have and where it is located, we can offer you a precise game plan and quote an exact commission.
You SellIf you prefer to sell your merchandise outright for cash, we could be a buyer. A purchase agreement is contingent upon both the desirability of your merchandise and your discounted bulk sale price.

Because Emeric is engaged in the business of selling personal property items on a daily basis, he is frequently called upon to provide expert appraisals for property settlements, probate, bankruptcy, divorces and insurance. Formal written reports are submitted in a jurat's form (i.e., as sworn testimony). Informal, unwritten appraisals are offered at a reduced fee.
