With a background in freelance and rig welding, A-1 Construction's President and founder, Gerald Franklin, began building metal carports in 1975. Seeing a need in East Texas for a quality carport at a reasonable price, he purchased equipment in 1981 to manufacture a line of aluminum and steel carports and patio covers. Gerald's wife, Wanda Franklin, joined the company full time in 1995. With Wanda's background in sales and marketing and Gerald's background in the steel industry, they have together built the company from what started as a one-man operation in 1975 to today's full service company.

A-1 manufactures several profiles of steel siding, roofing panels, and custom steel trim, using the latest computerized manufacturing and folding equipment.
