The Gruene Outpost Lodge is a family owned and managed home away from home on the banks of the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels, Texas. We acquired the Outpost a little over three years ago and weve been workin to make improvements to this 30-year old diamond in the rough ever since we got here.
So, if youre lookin for a place where you can let your hair down, drink a cold beverage and BBQ by the river, the Outpost is your kind of place. You can even build a campfire outside your room under a canopy of age-old pecan and black oak trees.
Just a little over a mile away is the historical district of Gruene where you can sing along and dance to great music at Gruene Hall -- the oldest continually operated dance hall in the Texas. Three miles away is historic downtown New Braunfels and internationally renowned Schlitterbahn Water Park. We can tell you the best places to eat, shop and play in our area and trust us..we love sending folks to our favorite spots that only the locals know about!
If youre planning to visit San Antonio or Austin during your visit, the Outpost is a great home base. Its 45 minutes to an hour depending on your speedometer reading to get to Austin and just about 30 minutes to downtown San Antonio.
We have a total of 44 rooms 29 of them have kitchens. Sorry, were a little old fashioned and dont have dishwashers so youll want to bring your own cooking and eating utensils.
Our swimming pool has a small slide that the youngsters really dig, just like on the river front, the trees around the pool lend some shade so you can watch the kiddos in comfort. Youll probably end up going down the slide at some point too!
We have a clubhouse with a 52-inch flat screen TV -- great for watching movies, playing board games, and reading books. It has room to comfortably seat about 60. Its perfect for your next reunion, reception, party or business meeting.
You can play volleyball, throw some half-court hoops, bring washers, horseshoes whatever floats your boat and set it up on the grounds. Speaking of floating.we also have a tube and raft rental facility here as well. You can float from upriver right back to your room or, if Mother Nature isnt cooperating with us for the perfect Guadalupe float trip, well take you to the Comal River in downtown New Braunfels.
There is even a locally owned and run nightspot within walking distance called Billys Icehouse. Theyve got great music, a dance floor, a full bar, snacks, and they never charge a cover this place is a blast and well even loan you a flash light to get there and back!
If youd like to listen to live music at Gruene Hall, Tavern in the Gruene, River Road Icehouse or any of the downtown New Braunfels hotspots, we can arrange a short shuttle or taxi service to take care of you.
New to the strip is Coopers Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que where like they say.Its all about the meat. Folks this is proper Hill Country fare originally from Llano where theyve been winning awards and accolades for better than 40 years. We can definitely vouch for those guys brisket, sausage, chicken, or prime rib, they know how to smoke em up right !!!
Were not a five star bed and breakfast or a frontage road cookie cutter hotel. Were a rustic river lodge located conveniently within the city limits. If you like room to stretch your legs, cooking out down by the river, or staring into a campfire, there is no hotel like it in New Braunfels. You feel like your out in the woods when youre really right in town. So, come join us and sit by the river a while.
