DHEA is the mother of all hormones and affects all other hormones in the body. It is also known as the longevity hormone. Studies have shown that people who have more of it tend to live longer on average than people who have less of it. A decrease in DHEA which occurs with age and stress has dire consequences on the overall well-being of humans. A decrease in DHEA leads to a decrease in testosterone and increase in insulin. An increase in insulin tends to cause not only diabetes, but also salt retention and hypertension.
When the hormones are low, the body wants to produce them and naturally raises the ingredient that is needed to make those hormones and that is why cholesterol increases. An increase in cholesterol should therefore be a signal to test for the hormones.
