Dual-Language Immersion Program
Research has shown that dual language learners who begin their studies in nursery or preschool and continue them throughout the middle school years are far more likely to retain full fluency later on in their adult lives. In addition, the benefits of dual language immersion extend far beyond the language capabilities. Dual language learners are more adaptable to life situations, are more capable of processing multiple approaches to a problem, and are more confident in their ability to handle risk and change.
As our languages become more economically valuable in the global world and economies, our children will need a new set of skills for their education and their personal interaction. Educational studies show that early training in second language acquisition enhances a childs ability to reason and provides greater cognitive, educational, social-cultural, and economic development. Bright Years Child Learning Center Dual-Language Immersion Program is the first of its kind in the League City area. We are proud to offer a program in which children are immersed in a Spanish-rich environment so that children become bi-lingual, bi-literate, and bi-cultural! All this while children learn all the basic skills necessary to become happy, self-sufficient, confident learners.
By providing a warm, engaging environment where children play and move through their days while hearing and using Spanish, Bright Years Child Learning Center naturally fosters the development of a second language.
Bright Years dual language education is a program that is research driven, and structured to provide children the opportunity to learn two languages simultaneously while being taught a curriculum through thematic units of study. To achieve bilingualism most rapidly, children are instructed in Spanish 80% of the day and 20% in English. The English portion of the program includes Circle Time and Science. During Circle time, children are exposed to the ABCs, calendar, numbers, colors, shapes, and songs. Science, also known as Sensory Exploration, exposes students to learn about the world around them through hands-on experiments and explorations. Topics covered, for example are dinosaur excavations, rocks collections, bugs studies, and nature walks. This effective separation of the two languages offers the opportunity for monolingual English-speaking children to learn Spanish, for monolingual Spanish-speakers to learn English, and for children partly bi-lingual in both to balance and enhance their dual-language skills. The method of daily exposure to and participation in both languages establishes a basic solid foundation in both languages necessary to easily transition children into kindergarten or other school whether or not they continue with a dual language immersion program.
