Having your baby at a licensed Birth Center is one of the best decisions a mother can make. You will have a much higher chance of having a normal birth and avoiding an unnecessary c-section. Unlike hospitals, we are designed solely for the purpose of child birth. Our facility was designed to provide the comforts and setting of home for a relaxing and personal experience while being under the supervision of trained and experienced midwives We believe that a woman should experience the miracle of birth in a calm, soothing, and natural setting and providing women with one on one care.
Owned and operated by midwives, our facility strives to provide high quality, personal care. The experience you'll receive from our midwives is personal, complete, and comprehensive. Midwives are licensed to deliver babies for normal, healthy women. If you should develop a problem, we are six blocks (three minutes) from Bayshore Hospital. While attending your appointments at our birth center, you will become at ease with our staff and facility, relieving the anxiety and fear of having your child in an unfamiliar place with unknown personnel. At our licensed birth center, we maintain a safe and clean environment to protect the health of our mothers and unborn children. We are advocates of breastfeeding and have breast pump rentals if you should need one. We provide birthing services in the Houston, Galveston, and Beaumont areas of Texas.
The birth of a baby is sacred event that only happens once and should be respected as an important part of that family's history.
Pregnancy and childbirth is a normal, healthy process and can be one of the most empowering of lifes experiences.
Women have the right to seek care that is medically safe, that fits their lifestyles, and that recognizes and respects their individual physical, social, spiritual, psychological, and economic needs.
Women and families have the right and responsibility to assume an active role in their own health care.
Education is an essential part of quality health care. Only when women and their families have real access to information are they able to assume an active role in their own health care.
Once screened for safety, a large percentage of women can birth safely out of hospital (85-90%).
The midwife's role is to observe, monitor mother and baby and to support and promote the normal process. We are your guardians during the birth process.
Interventions, drugs and surgery are appropriately and medically indicated for only a small number of women. Medical interventions should not be used routinely.
Women, babies and their families benefit from the most natural birth possible and because childbirth affects more than just mothers and babies, maternity care should support and promote the well-being of the entire family.

Bay Area Birth Center first opened in August, 2005. Before that, the name of the business was Gentle Care Birth Services , and the office was at the home of Jackie Griggs. The business eventually outgrew Jackies home. At that time, Jackie helped only with home birth. A new office was found and remodeled for use as a Birth Center.
The first baby born at the Birth Center was in February, 2006. Since then, lots more have followed. At this time, about half of the clients who come to Bay Area Birth Center have babies born at home and about half at the Birth Center. Jackie and Camellia began working together in 2001.
Bay Area Birth Center is a freestanding birth center run by three midwives (CNMs and CPMs).
We help women with home or birth center births.
