In 1977 while still living in Florida, Dawn met Jarrett Thompson, owner of Old South Pointer Farms a renowned kennel for bird-dogs. She claims the thing that gravitated her to her future husband was his love for dogs, a passion she shared with him. Dawn and Jarrett were married in 1981 and immediately set their sights on Texas. Old South Pointer Farms relocated to Rosanky where it continued it's successful operation and where Dawn got her experience caring for the dogs at the Farms.
But another dream was churning within Dawn, to have a boarding kennel, a place where folks could feel comfortable about leaving their pets. In Nov. 1995, Best Friends Boarding Kennel became a reality, word spread rapidly that " Best Friends" was the place and Dawn the ultimate Inn-Keeper. It is Dawn's belief that dogs are God's greatest creation because they demonstate the unconditional love the Lord has for us. Dawn would tell you it is her calling to be a care-taker of God's creation.
The story of Best Friends origin doesn't stop here. No way! Over the years talk between Dawn and bestfriend / step daughter Kimberly Simpson started about having a second location for Best Friends since Kimberly shares the same passion for dogs/cats that Dawn does. The search for property began as the dream for the type of facility we wanted to offer emerged. Best Friends Boarding Too in Cedar Creek is now a reality. Kimberly will manage this location and Dawn will of course spend time between the two locations. So now Bastrop County has two great kennel locations for your choice. WOW there is nothing like the love, care and attention your pet will receive at either location.
