Lake Sam Rayburn is the largest reservoir wholly within the state of Texas, and provides some of the finest freshwater fishing in America. It's 114,500 acres are situated on the Angelina River between Nacogdoches and Jasper, Texas. "Big Sam" has more fishable water than most anglers could cover in a lifetime. Dotting the 750 miles of shoreline are thousands of willow trees and buckbush, plus 10,000 acres of aquatic vegetation, including hydrilla and coontail. Powell Park Marina, on the south end of the lake, has the most stable year-round fishing conditions. No matter what the weather, you can always launch your boat at the marina or one of the other nearby ramp areas facing east, north, or south. For hunters, the facility is just minutes away from Type II, National Forest and Corps of Engineers property, where excellent deer, duck, squirrel and feral hogs may be found. When you visit Powell Park Marina, you will see an abundance of wildlife, from Bald Eagles and Ospreys in the tall pines surrounding the lake. There's something for everyone: fishermen, campers, birdwatchers or just plain old sun and water lovers. For golfers, there is an excellent 27-hole golf course at Rayburn Country, just minutes across the lake by boat. Powell Park Marina will make a tee time for you if you call ahead. For all part-time Texans, better known as "snowbirds" who want to get away from ice and snow, make Powell Park Marina your winter home. Enjoy our mild climate and your favorite water activity.
