The founder of Eyes of San Antonio, Dr. Robert S. Thompson, was born and raised in Stamford, Texas. Dr.Thompson is a 1972 graduate of the University of Houston College of Optometry. While there, he earned membership in Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society. He also served as Vice President of the University of Houston Baptist Student Union. After graduating, he served in the United States Army as an optometry officer for four years. Dr. Thompson earned his Therapeutic License to treat most eye diseases in 1992, and his Glaucoma Therapeutics License in 2000. He enjoys all phases of optometry, but is especially interested in contact lenses and laser vision correction. He has worn contact lenses since age 17, and derives interest and enthusiasm for his profession from his enjoyment in wearing lenses. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors of Nuvision, a local refractive surgery network of doctors.
He established his Walzem practice in 1976, and opened a second office in Castle Hills in 1987 to accommodate our North Side patients. We expanded our opticals to include an in-office lab for faster spectacle lens service. In 2001 we were blessed with a larger more modern facility. Our focus is to acquire the newest technology in equipment for our clinic. We can make many prescriptions the same day. Our personnel undergo extensive training and use cutting edge technology to improve the visual performance of our patients. Dr. Thompson accepts most insurance plans.
