I didn't go into the practice of criminal defense by accident. Defending people comes naturally to me. Unlike many of my colleagues who practice criminal law, I have never prosecuted anyone and I never will. That isn't me. My entire career has been dedicated to defending people accused of crimes.
My Criminal Defense Practice: 27 years of Experience
I'm Robert Fickman, an experienced criminal defense lawyer in Houston, Texas. In the past 27 years I have defended virtually every kind of criminal case, from murder to DWI to assault. I have defended clients charged with complex federal cases, drug conspiracies, murder charges, aggravated robbery, a wide range of sex offenses, and DWI. I have defended people from all walks of life; from clients who have never seen the inside of a courtroom to clients with lengthy criminal records.
Standing by and Fighting for My Clients
I give my clients the benefit of the doubt. My clients are entitled to have me in their corner, fighting for them. The law says that you are presumed innocent. But don’t be naïve. In this world the first step to winning a criminal case is recognizing that if you want to win, your lawyer will have to assume the burden, develop a strong defense, and prove your innocence.
My philosophy as a criminal defense lawyer is fairly simple. If a client tells me they are not guilty, and if the state will not dismiss the charges, then my advice is that we should go to trial and fight. Unlike a lot of lawyers, I don’t think it's my job as an attorney to try talking an innocent person into pleading guilty.
A Reputation for Hard Work and Persistence
Most of my business comes from referrals from other lawyers, past clients, or local organizations. I believe people come to me because of my reputation for hard work and integrity. Clients know that I will do my best no matter what the situation. It is not necessary to have a referral for me to assist you. Anyone can call me to represent them.
My law practice is dedicated solely to criminal defense. I have tried many cases in the Harris County Criminal Courthouse and in the Federal Courthouse. Approximately half of my cases involve federal charges while the other half involves Texas state charges.
