In 2007, approximately 1.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide. Nearly 25 percent of breast cancer patients are HER2-posiitve. Evidence has shown that HER2-positive tumors grow and spread more quickly.

T-DM1 Trastuzumab-DM1 (T-DM1) is an experimental drug designed for the treatment of HER-2-positive breast cancer. It has not yet been approved by the FDA. T-DM1 combines the antibody (trastuzumab) with chemotherapy to specifically target cancer cells.

T-DM-1 Clinical Trial We would like to introduce you to the TDM437g/EMILIA Clinical Trial. The EMILIA Clinical Trial is a randomized, multicenter, phase III open-label study of the efficacy and safety of trastuzumab-MCC-DM1 vs capecitabine plus lapatnib in patients with HER-2positive locally advanced metastatic breast cancer who have received prior trastuzumab-based therapy.

The purpose of this clinical trial is to compose the effects of T-DM1 with capecitabine plus lapatinib in patients with locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer (MBC). In this study, half of the patients will receive the experimental drug T-DM1 and half of the patients will receive capecitabine plus lapatinib (which are approved by the FDA for the treatment of patients with MBC). As of November 2009, approximately 594 patients in clinical trials have been treated with T-DM1 either alone or in combination with other therapies.

Have locally advanced HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer
Have had prior treatment for locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer that included taxane and trastuzumab
