Welcome to Austin Guitar School
August 1st, 1987 - Austin Guitar School opened its doors thanks to the owner, Ted Hall. Now 23 years later, AGS is still Austin's #1 pick for aspiring guitarists. In fact, our guitar school was so successful that we became more versatile by adding Electric Bass, Drum and Piano programs. Over the years, we have accumulated such a diverse staff, great musicians who have a passion for what they do, so much so that they want to share it with others.
AGS specializes in private instruction for all styles of guitar - Electric, Acoustic, Dobro, Classical, Electric Bass, Mandolin, Lap Steel, Banjo, Ukulele, Drums, Piano, Voice & Violin. Group instruction is offered for Beginning Blues Guitar and Beginning Electric Bass @ AGS on weeknights, these group classes are 8 weeks long & the cost is $65.00 per course.
AGS students have the opportunity to perform with a band in front of a crowd every 2 months in what we call our "Student Showcases". The Showcases are generally held on Sunday afternoons and are an all day event. They are completely free! Also available to our students is our music library and movie theatre. We have hundreds of instructional videos, magazines and tab books that our students are welcome to use here at the school.
AGS also hosts a weekly Blues Jam now in its 18th year every Sunday 8pm-11:30pm @ Jax's Neighborhood Cafe located on the UT Campus 1 block West of 29th & Guadalupe @ 2828 Rio Grande. The show is free & features AGS Sudents & many of Austin's finest Musicians.
