1. Make an inventory of all items to be stored. Keep the inventory off-premise and in a safe and easy-to-find location.
2. Take photographs of valuable items.
3. Stack items in similar sized boxes to increase the ease of stacking.
4. Stack heavier items on the bottom.
5. Don't over pack boxes. They become too heavy and could create a dangerous situation.
6. Avoid stacking things directly against the wall. Leave room for air flow in the unit.
7. Use pallets or blankets to keep items off the floor of the unit.
8. Make a plan to organize your unit. This will save time in the long run.
9. Store couches on end, stack chairs seat to seat, and use larger items to store blankets, clothes, and smaller knickknacks.
10. Leave a walkway down the middle of your unit for easy access.
11. You may need to purchase shelving units to better utilize your storage space. This could even make your space needs smaller and save you money!
12. Label all boxes on all sides. Again, this will save time in the long run.

13. Pack items you will be needing frequently towards the front.

Use the following information to help you determine the approximate storage size you will need.

5'x 10'- This size Storage Space is ideal for furnishings from a one bedroom or studio apartment or office. Will hold a couch and chair, bedroom set, plus small items and boxes. 10'x 10'- This size Storage Space is ideal for furnishings from a two-bedroom apartment or 2 office suites, without appliances.
10'x 20'- This size Storage Space is ideal for furnishings from a three or four bedroom apartment or a three bedroom house with appliances.

14. Disassemble large items, such as bed frames, tables, etc. This will save space and prevent breakage. Be sure to keep all parts together. Keep screws and smaller items handy by placing them in a plastic bag and then taping them to the original item.

15. When storing appliances, be sure to clean them out! Leave the door slightly open on refrigerators and microwaves to prevent mildew.
16. Rub a small amount of oil on metal tools, bikes, etc. This will prevent rust - but be sure to separate these so oil will not get on other things!
17. Store mirrors and paintings on end, do not lay them flat. Wrap and indicate they are fragile.
18. Lay blankets or cloth over and between furniture to prevent scratching.
19. DO NOT store food items in a storage unit as it will attract rodents.
20. DO NOT store paint, oil, or gasoline in your storage unit. Drain all gas and oil from lawnmowers, blowers, etc.
21. It is against the law to store hazardous or combustible materials in storage units.
22. Do not put mothballs in boxes, they could possibly leave stains on clothing.
23. Do not give any untrusted source your access code or keys to your storage unit.
24. Do not hesitate to ask Cassie any questions you may have before or during move-in!
