This astounding amount of dedicated time suggests that sleep is not only important in refreshing our mental capacities but also an essential element for sustaining our physical health. Sleep should not be viewed as time lost or wasted; on the contrary, sleep should be recognized for its restorative function to our daily mental and physical well-being.
Unfortunately, more than 100 million Americans of all ages regularly fail to get a good night’s sleep. According to a 2002 National Sleep Foundation study, about 75% of American adults are experiencing a sleeping problem a few nights a week or more, and more than one-third (37%) are so sleepy during the day that it interferes with daily activities. In fact, sleep disorders are being recognized by the medical community for contributing to the development of various medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes. However, most sleep disorders can be successfully treated or controlled once properly diagnosed.
The Dallas Center for Sleep Disorders was founded by one of the leaders in the field of sleep medicine.
The DCSD has been modeled after the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic in Palo Alto, CA, which is the world’s leading clinical and research institution in the field. Dr. Kakar himself was trained at the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic, and he still holds close ties to his mentors and colleagues there. Dr. Kakar’s vision was to bring the cutting edge scientific knowledge and expertise of Stanford to the DFW Metroplex. At The DCSD, we carefully and thoughtfully evaluate our patients before creating a treatment plan that is easy to understand. We are skilled at diagnosing and treating all types of sleep disorders, including insomnia, sleep apnea, sleep walking, night terrors, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy, to name a few.
