Happy Thanksgiving from Westside Baptist Temple!!!!

By wsbt | November 25, 2010

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! We pray you have a wonderful Thanksgiving day and remember
to thank our Lord, from whom all blessings flow.

During the summer of 1621, the Pilgrims suffered a severe and extended time of drought. They knew that without a change in the weather, there would be no fall harvest. The winter would surely bring severe starvation and death to their community. Therefore, Gov. William Bradford gathered the Pilgrims together for a time of prayer and fasting. Shortly thereafter, a gentle rain began to fall. Gov. Bradford explained in his History of Plymouth Plantation: “The rain came without either wind or thunder or any violence, and by degrees in abundance, as that the earth was thoroughly wet and soaked therewith, which did so apparently revive and quicken the decayed corn and other fruits as was wonderful to see, and made the Indians astonished to behold; and afterwards the Lord sent them such seasonable showers, with interchanged of fair warm weather as, through His blessing, caused a fruitful and liberal harvest, to their no small comfort and rejoicing. The rain save the corn.”
One of the Indians who saw this miracle remarked: “Now I see that the Englishman’s God is a good God; for He hath heard you, and sent you rain, and that without such tempest and thunder as we used to have with our rain; which after our Powawing for it, breaks down the corn; whereas your corn stands whole and good still; surely, your God is a good God.”

Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation

By wsbt | November 18, 2010

Whereas, It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.
Whereas, both the houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness!” Now, therefore, I do recommend next, to be devoted by the people of the states to the service of that great and glorious being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be, that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country.

Not just today, but every day should be Thanksgiving Day.
Time should be spent in retrospect; there should be time to pray
And thank the Lord for blessings sweet, For His great loving care
That overshadows everyday; and in that little prayer
You should include your thankfulness for kin and friends so true,
For this great land in which we dwell, for skies so clear and blue,
For little birds bursting with song, for babies sweet and small;
For blessings such as these we should be thankful for them all.
Thanksgiving Day comes once a year, and this is why I say-
Not just today, but every day should be Thanksgiving Day!

Thank you to all of our great country’s Veterans. We thank you all for your sacrifice. May God continue to bless America!

Matthew Henry, the famous Bible scholar, was once accosted by thieves and robbed of his wallet. He wrote these words in his diary: “Let me be thankful first because I was never robbed before; second, although they took my wallet, they did no take my life; third, because, although they took my all, it was not much; and fourth, because it was I who was robbed, not I who robbed.”
What a beautiful attitude of thanksgiving! There is no room in a grateful heart of bitterness or hate. One who is grateful for God’s blessings will not have to be prodded into serving God! One who is thankful for God’s salvation will not have to be begged to gather to worship Him! He who is grateful to God for His provision for all our needs will not have to be shamed into giving of his material means unto God!
Thanksgiving is best expressed through thanksliving!

There is no room for broad-mindedness in the chemical laboratory. Water is composed of two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. The slightest deviation from that formula is forbidden. There is no room for broad-mindedness in the mathematics classroom. Neither geometry, calculus, nor trigonometry allows any variation from exact accuracy, even for old time’s sake. Thesolution ofthe problem is either right or it is wrong (no tolerance there). There is no room for broad-mindedness in biology. One varying result out of a thousand experiments will invalidate an entire theory. There is no room for broad-mindedness on the athletic field. The game is to be played according to the rules with no favors shown for “charity’s sake”.
How then shall we expect that broad-mindedness shall rule in the realm of Christianity and morals?
He who forsakes the truth of God, forsakes the God of truth.

I’ll Tell The World, That I’m A Christian!

Honest Hymn Singing…..
If we were entirely honest every time we sang a hymn or Gospel song, here’s how some of our old favorites would come out:
I surrender some ….instead of -I surrender all
There shall be sprinkles of blessings ….instead of -There shall be showers of blessings
Fill my spoon, Lord ….instead of -Fill my cup, Lord
Oh, how I like Jesus ….instead of -Oh, how I love Jesus
He’s quite a bit to me ….instead of -He’s everything to me
I love to talk about telling the story ….instead of -I love to tell the story
Take my life and let me be ….instead of -Take my life and let it be
It is my secret what God can do ….instead of -It is no secret what God can do
There is scattered cloudiness in my soul today ….instead of -There is sunshine in my soul today
Onward, Christian reserves ….instead of -Onward, Christian soldiers
Where He leads me, I will consider following ….instead of -Where He leads me, I will follow
Just as I pretend to be ….instead of -Just as I am

A Pastor tells the story of a little boy who was swimming one day in a lake when suddenly he suffered some type of physical difficulty and could swim no farther. The boy struggled for his life. He had gone under twice, when he felt the strong arm of a man lifting him. The man had seen the little boy’s desperate plight and had swum out to save him. The man took the boy safely to shore and, after making certain that everything was well, turned to leave. The little boy said, “Thank you, sir, for saving my life.” The man replied, “you’re welcome, son. See to it that you are worth saving.”
The Pastor said that he has never forgotten those words. For he was that boy whose life was saved by a man who didn’t even leave his name. A good question for the Christian to ask is, “Am I worth saving?” God in Christ has made a large investment in the life of each of us, and He has every right to expect a return of His investment.

If you cannot be a preacher and hold millions in your sway.
You can be faithful witness preaching by your life each day.
Perhaps you are too old or weary to climb the mountains steep and high,
But you need not from the valley be indifferent as men die.
God has blessed you with His bounty, so there’s something you can do.
You can be a faithful steward and help the lost find Christ through you.
If you cannot be His servant preaching on some distant shore,
Then at least you can be faithful to witness to the man next door.
Do not wait for call or vision; there is work for all today.
Let us all then join God’s army and do our best without delay.
Though you cannot go in person, you can go by purse and prayer.
If you have a heart to serve Him, you can serve Him anywhere.
