East Rim Ranch lies at 4,000' elevation and is located between Alpine and Big Bend National Park, on US Hwy 118. The ranch is just south of Elephant Mountain, just 30 minutes from Alpine.
The ranch consists of 12,000 acres. Seven miles of Highway frontage and has rolling terrain with 200 foot high limestone hills. It is part of the desert grasslands and home to blue quail, mule deer, and the occassional elk and ibex.
Calamity Creek flows south from the higher elevation mountains and runs through the ranch creating a prolific aquifer and dramatic landscape. The creek is a highway for the desert bighorn sheep that breed on Elephant Mountain to the north and Nine Point Mesa to the south.
The East Rim Ranch is being managed for wildlife; it has an extensive watering system and no buildings. It has electricity and a number of water wells, miles of polypipe to watering troughs and a large storage reservoir. The perimeter is fenced and there is cross fencing and two sets of pens.
Ten miles of roads have been improved recently, giving access to most of the ranch on both sides of the creek. There is a working rock quarry, or caliche pit, which has good road base available on the ranch for additional roads and ongoing maintenance.
The ranch is available for sale in its entirety at $495/acre or $5,940,000.
