For the hay and the corn and the wheat that is reaped,
For the labor well done, and the barns that are heaped,
For the sun and the dew and the sweet honeycomb,
For the rose and the song and the harvest brought home --
For the trade and the skill and the wealth in our land,
For the cunning and strength of the workingman's hand,
For the good that our artists and poets have taught,
For the friendship that hope and affection have brought --
For the homes that with purest affection are blest,
For the season of plenty and well-deserved rest,
For our country extending from sea unto sea;
The land that is known as the "Land of the Free" --
Indeed we have many things to be thankful for. Although things in life are never perfect and not all of our dreams and goals have been met, to take time to give thanks for the blessings we do have fills us with a sense of gratitude for God’s providence. May the Lord continue to bless you and your families and may this Season of Advent be a time of preparation and welcome for a deeper presence of God in our lives.

SOME GOOD THINGS TO KNOW...
THIS WEEK'S BULLETIN
SAN ANTONIO POLICE DEPARTMENT BLUE SANTA COLLECTION
The BLUE SANTA COLLECTION will be taken up on December 4 & 5 weekend. The first one began in December 1997. This collection for poor and abused children is held annually in honor of Fr. Don Shepanski, a former parochial vicar here at St. Matthew and an SAPD chaplain (He died February 8, 2001.) On behalf of Fr. Don, the SAPD and all of our parishioners, we THANK YOU for your continual generosity.
From 1997 to 2009 our parish has lovingly given $ 206,930.34 in memory of Fr. Don Shepanski . Help us to keep his legacy going for the kids he met and loved so much while riding with the SAPD!
HOLYDAYS OF OBLIGATION
A reminder: We have five holydays in the United States:
Mary Mother of God: January 1st
Assumption: August 15th
All Saints: November 1st
Immaculate Conception: December 8th
Nativity of Jesus (Christmas): December 25th
Both the Immaculate Conception and Nativity of Jesus ALWAYS ARE HOLYDAYS OF OBLIGATION, regardless on what day they fall. The other three, when they are on either a Saturday or a Monday, the obligation is abrogated. Those of us who recall having six holydays which included the Ascension know that the TX bishops have moved this solemnity to the 7th Sunday of Easter. Questions, call Fr. Dennis.
