Dr. Robert J. Rankin graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and then received his Master's and Doctoral degrees in Counseling Psychology from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He completed an APA approved Clinical Psychology Internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Health Psychology at William Beaumont Army Medical Center.

Dr. Rankin is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, having served in the United States Army for 25 years. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff School in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. During his career, Dr. Rankin has served in a number of positions in military hospitals and medical centers. He was the Chief Psychologist at Womack Army Hospital at Fort Bragg, and consulted with the Special Forces in screening military candidates for Sniper School training. He later served as the Chief Psychologist at 5th General Hospital in Stuttgart Germany, and as a Psychological Consultant trained many members of 7th Corps Military Police on the psychological effects of terrorism. He was the Director of Counseling Services at the Army's largest alcoholism treatment facility in Europe. In that role, in addition to providing direct patient care, Dr. Rankin was responsible for training all military hospital commanders and senior physicians in the European theatre in the early recognition of, and intervention in, the disease of alcoholism.. At William Beaumont Army Medical Center Dr. Rankin was the U.S. Army Doctor Fellow in Health Psychology before assuming the role as Director of that program in ensuing years.
Military Awards: Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, Army Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Two Ten Year Devices, Army Service Ribbon. He was awarded the Expert Field Medical Badge with the 8th Infantry Division, as well as the Expert Marksman Badge for the .45 Pistol and M-16 Rifle. He was a recipient of the Presidential Sports Award, and was awarded the 67th Vierdaagse Medal while being the Officer in Charge of the marching team representing the United States Army Europe and 7th Army during the Four Day/ 100 Mile March in Nijmegen Holland. He also was awarded by the German Army the "Schutzenschnur" (Expert Marksman with German Rifle and Machine Gun), and German Proficiency Medals in Bronze and Silver.
Community Involvement: Dr. Rankin is an Eagle Scout and is a Life Member of the National Eagle Scout Association. He has been active in the Boy Scouts of America for most of his life. He has been the Committee Chairman with Troops 2 and 27 in El Paso, Texas, and served as the District Commission for Polaris District. He currently serves as the Chair for the Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Diocese of El Paso, and Chair for the Advancement Committee in Yucca Council. He is active in Queen of Peace Church, and has served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Music Ministry. He also volunteers as a Member of the Pastoral Response Team for the Diocese of El Paso. He has worked with Marriage Savers of El Paso in providing seminars to couples. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Rankin teaches weekend parenting clases at his office once a month. He and his wife have been married for 34 years and have 5 children and three grandchildren. Much of his therapy is based on tried and proven methods of living a life of love and care for those special people in his life.
