Ryan Benson, The Biggest Loser's first season winner, lost 122lbs. He has gained back 90lbs since that time. That doesn't make him a bad guy or a suck dude, but here is the rub...
Even after people accept the Truth about what it takes to lose weight, and even after they take massive action to produce results like on the Biggest Loser...there is still a critical piece that must be addressed to keep the weight off long term.
Most, and by that I mean ALMOST ALL diet and exercise programs don't work because people are taught to "white knuckle" mental noise and smash through all obstacles to achieve the goal, HOWEVER....if the root cause is not addressed, if people don't question that cranial craziness and search for where they learned that mental madness with the exact same fervor they pour into the workouts they are absolutely destined to fail.
Why do we think what we think about food? Where did it come from? Who told it to me? How am I being influenced every second of every day by friends, family, co-workers, marketers, and even children.
Ever had someone call you lame for eating healthy or limiting your drinking? Ever had a Mom say "you need to eat honey"? How about a coworker who gives you flack for passing on the office croissants? Ever notice you eat something because it makes you feel like a kid? (i.e. no responsibility, no worry) Do you think that is an accident? Its more like a brilliant multi-million dollar brain infusion called an ad or a billboard or one those signs at a Cheese Cake Factory that says "Celebrate" (with a 1000 calorie cheese cake coma).
How come we can't recognize these things in "real time"?

Peoples struggles with fitness nearly NEVER come from a lack of will-power. They are most often paralyzed by other neglected responsibilities such as "Email Inboxs" that have 321 unaddressed items, closets full of unused clothes, or a fear-induced avoidance of a tough conversation with family member.
Once those plays are made eating healthier and working out become cake....so to speak.
Sustainable fitness is NOT achieved with a head long assault. It is accomplished through a vigilant effort to discover blind spots in all areas of your life.
The only way to achieve long term weight loss is to wake up, acknowledge the rules, and play "the game".

The mental influence of a society that is 70% overweight will always have the upper hand unless we do things on a daily basis to shock us off the rails of unhealthy, externallyconditioned auto tapes. Weed the garden of your fertile mind and watch the fitness blossom. (Or let Big Brother take over.)
There is no doubt we are being influenced without our conscious consent.
The 10 in 21 Challenge startles people out of automaton behavior so at least they can make a free choice. http://davidkingfitness.com/programs/10-in-21-challenge

That is ultimately what leads to long term fitness and an enjoyable, exciting life.

I heard about a technique a few days ago on how to get more done in a day than you normally would in an entire week... Darn it if it doesn't really work AND it centers around going on vacation everyday...check this out...
